As part of our Work with Ukraine Intiative, we hire a wide range of specialists from Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees displaced by the war. Millions of Ukrainians have lost work in their own country or been forced abroad, this initiative, simply put, is intended to keep them working. 

Therapy for Ukrainians​

As part of our Therapy for Ukrainians Intitiative, we have partnered with a major tele-therapy company, Cyti Psychological, to offer FREE therapy to Ukrainians and others displaced by the war now residing in Oregon and California.

Our passion is film. We are passionate about opening up Ukrainian culture to the world and collaborating with the Ukraininian film, animation, theatre and music communities in the process. There are stories of great wonder and beauty to be told. And we are working on one of them.

Mental support for Displaced

Since the invasion of Ukraine began, over 8 Million Ukrainians have been displaced around the globe, along with an additional 8 Million that have been displaced inside the country. Displacement from your home is an incredibly stressful situation on many levels. 

Who we are

The Arts Council for Humanitarian Relief (Arts Council informally) – is a non-profit organization based in Oregon. Our founders and advisory boards are comprised of experienced professionals working in the visual arts who have come together for the shared mission of providing humanitarian relief and raising awareness through the filmic arts. The Arts Council was founded by Honored Artist of Ukraine, Anna Artemenko and Blogger & Author, Halyna Artemenko.

After the invasion of Ukraine, Halyna joined her sister in America and the pair have since been working to cultivate a positive response to the crisis. In Anna’s words, “In the immediate moments after the invasion, I was, like so many of us, thinking ‘What can I do?’ I was watching as my home and the theatre I spent a career working at an actor were literally being razed to the ground. And as the war progressed, I found myself constantly thinking about my two very young children and ‘What do I want them to know and feel about our home?’ The intersection of these two thoughts gave birth to the Arts Council.”

Our Mission & Current Projects

The mission of the Arts Council has two main objectives: to provide direct humanitarian relief to those affected by war and to produce high quality content that raises awareness and promotes a greater understanding of traditional cultures. We are passionate about Supporting Ukrainians with initiatives that are focused life affirming aspects of change and a movement towards a better future. We do not fund weapons or military assistance, but focus instead on rebuilding the culture, particularly the Arts Community, and promoting positive Ukrainian cultural values throughout the world.

Work with Ukraine Intiative

As part of our Work with Ukraine Initiative, we hire a wide range of specialists from Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees displaced by the war. Millions of Ukrainians have lost work in their own country or been forced abroad, this initiative, simply put, is intended to keep them working. The impact is more than financial. As humans, we thrive on a sense of purpose. We can be proud and self-determined. Allowing people to apply professional skills and keep their sense of purpose through this trauma has a profound emotional and psychological impact in addition to helping keep food on the table. These individuals are talented. They are highly skilled, determined and in high demand.

Creative

Our passion is film. We are passionate about opening up Ukrainian culture to the world and collaborating with the Ukrainian film, animation, theatre and music communities in the process. There are stories of great wonder and beauty to be told. And we are working on one of them. Our intention is to expose the world to Ukrainian culture through the creation of short form content online and a full-length TV / streaming series for a young adult audience. The series, titled Moyrah, is a sci-fi fantasy coming of age story born of a young girl’s chance encounter with a pair of misunderstood characters from Ukrainian mythology.

Displacement from your home is an incredibly stressful situation on many levels. Many refugees experience the onset of anxiety disorders, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Cyti Psychological offers multiple modalities of therapy to address your long term and short term anxiety, depression, grief, parenting challenges, trauma, and significant life changes. As a refugee, you may be dealing with all of these at once. Talking with an experienced, professional therapist can help.

Our Team

Anna Artemenko Donoghue

Anna is Honored Artist of Ukraine. Served for 13 years in the Kiev National Theatre named after Lesya Ukrainka. As a lead actor in the repertory ensemble, she performed in over a hundred productions and had the wonderful opportunity to play multifaceted leading characters across genres - from comedy and tragedy to musicals and drama; classical to contemporary. She has also worked extensively in television and film appearing in many Ukrainian television shows, series, and films. Before obtaining her theatrical education and starting her professional career, she was engaged in ballroom dancing for 13 years and modeling. She met her husband, Daniel, on set in Los Angeles and eventually followed the call of her heart and moved to America with her husband. "Today, my husband and I are developing a family business and raising two young children. I am grateful to America for accepting me and giving me many opportunities. I feel the strength and blessings of a supportive environment and now I want to give these blessings to people who need them. Thus, our nonprofit was born. Of course, the pain of my motherland holds my mind and heart. We are working to help Ukrainian people who have encountered difficulties and artists that need support. We believe in the power of goodness and that each of us can make the world a better place."

Halyna Artemenko

Halyna is author of a cooking website, a YouTube channel with half a million subscribers, and five cookbooks. Although she hasn’t received any formal culinary education, her love for cooking and self-taught skills have allowed her to create almost 2,000 recipes for her website, almost 1,000 for other websites and magazines. She worked as a pastry chef, creating delicious sweets for private customers and cafes, and co-founded a non-professional cooking school with a donation to charity. “My passion for cooking began when I was a little girl, and I believe that getting to know the world through food is the essential way to do it. When the war in Ukraine began, I had to leave my home. I was bullied and threatened. I know what it's like to feel as a part of you has disappeared. However, with the incredible support of my friends and family, I realized that I am still me. I can be helpful and I I can move on." Our team is committed to helping those who are going through similar experiences. We want to be a source of support and encouragement for anyone who is facing difficult times.

Luke Bishop

Luke is currently the President of Satyr Entertainment, a full-scale production company he founded 20 years ago in Arizona. As a film producer, Luke has worked on multiple award-winning films, including Jimmy's Tale, a featurette he recently produced that has garnished over two dozen awards. He received a BFA degree in Acting from the University of Arizona and is a member of the Screen Actors' Guild. Slava Ukraini!

Allison Grice

Allison is an Oregon business owner and entrepreneur with a passion for improving the local community and the world in which she is raising a family. Raised in Portland herself, she loves the Pacific Northwest and is having a blast raising her daughter here. She enjoys our great local parks, community centers (Mt. Scott being a particular favorite for swimming and roller skating), great restaurants, awesome people and much more. She is thrilled to be a part of the Arts Council and excited at the potential to contribute to meaningful change in our world.

Daniel Hart Donoghue

Hailing from Lowell, Massachusetts, Daniel began his artistic career as a professional stage actor and has performed in over thirty stage productions throughout the country, along with numerous appearances in television and film. He also directed many stage productions during those years both in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He is a member of AEA, SAG and AFTRA. Daniel transitioned into writing screenplays a few years ago. His first feature script was a Semi-Finalist for the Academy Nichols Award and his first short film as a Writer and Director (Jimmy’s Tale), an adaptation of an original stage play, garnished thirteen awards in international festivals in Los Angeles, Boston, London, Scotland, and Tokyo including five nominations and three awards for Best Director. Daniel received a BA and MFA in Literature and Creative Writing, attending both the University of Massachusetts Amherst in America and the University of Limerick in Ireland. He is thrilled to be a part of the Arts Council beside his wife and his hero, Anna Artemenko.
